Dr Rodriquez Lopez started his working career as a research assistant at the National Institute of Biological Research in Veracruz Mexico, where he investigated the low-capital and labour-intensive weed management practices as a member of a multi-disciplinary team that assessed agricultural technologies in the Xalapa Region of Mexico. Later he was the Visiting Assistant Professor at the Department of Agricultural Economics at the Oklahoma State University where he led an interdisciplinary research team to develop a wheat grazing system model to assess production and marketing risk in the Southern Plains of the USA. There after he worked for the global agricultural research center, ICARDA, in Quetta, Pakistan, where he was the Agricultural Economics Advisor, advising the AZRI’s Agricultural Economics Group and developing research programs and supervising Pakistani scientists. He then worked for ICARDA in Aleppo, Syria where he was the agricultural economist, for the Farm Resource Management Program. In 2006 working for Chemonics International he held the position of the National Risk and Vulnerability Analyst where he led a participatory process. The assessment included the sectors: population, health and education; water and sanitation; energy; agriculture and livestock; labour and migration; income and livelihoods of Kuchi, rural and urban populations; and Millennium Development Goals. Working for the University of Idaho in 2008 to 2012 he was the community economic development specialist where he enhanced the analytical toolkit for policy-making, economic development, leadership and entrepreneurial skills of local governments and members of the civil society. He also customized training for local leaders in participatory social accounting, asset mapping, impact analysis, and community business matching. He most recently was working for the Checchi and Company Consulting, Inc where he was the Team Leader, Performance Evaluation of the Improving Livelihoods and Governance through Natural Resource Management for the USAID funded project where he evaluated the effectiveness of livelihoods and governance programs in protected areas of Afghanistan.
