Objective & Description

WATERCLIMA LAC looked to contribute to improving watershed and coastal management in the context of climate change. The project sought to improve the dialogue and cooperation on watershed and coastal management and to support the technical and financial mechanisms for improved management. To this end, several actions were undertaken, including: summary and evaluation of the present situation; pilot projects; networking; dissemination; training and capacity building. The project had 4 pilot demonstration areas where the activities will be developed. These were spread across Latin America to ensure hetrogenerity of different coastal areas including: Mexico (La Paz), Bajo Limpa (El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala), Haiti and Argentina (Mar de Plata).
The Specific Project Activities included:
¥ Analysis of the Climate Risks in Coastal Zones
¥ Integrated Water Resource Management
¥ Ecosystem Services and economic gains
¥ Local capacity building

Services provided by WE&B

WE&B developed the following services:
¥ An analysis of the current situation of the management of coastal areas (regional level)
¥ WE&B Performed a detailed diagnosis and baseline for comprehensive land management of the coastal zone
¥ WE&B Designed and implemented models for social management in the 4 pilot areas
¥ WE&B Designed models for biophysical management in 4 pilot areas
¥ WE&B Designed economic and financial models for the 4 pilot areas
¥ Prepared 3 Policy Briefs for each of the management models of (Social, Biophysical and Economic)
¥ Presented our findings are a closing conference held in La Paz, Baja California, Mexico.
