The main objective of the WACA Project was to establish a process that encourages community-based, local participation in policy communication, raises awareness, fosters targeted law enforcement, and promotes community ownership of policy processes regarding coastal management.
The main project activities were the following:
•Phase 1: Project Articulation. A literature review and analysis of ongoing related activities were conducted to inform the project’s direction.
•Phase 2: Knowledge Generation: The development of a Communication and Awareness Action Plan (CAAP) outlined the specific methods, tools, and activities employed as part of the WACA program to enhance its impact and achieve its objectives.
•Guidance Notes / Factsheets: Factsheets on sustainable coastal management in West Africa will be tailored to various target audiences, including private operators, mayors, decision-makers, and civil society organizations.
•Case Studies: The project will present three national and three international case studies, which will be shared among the West African coastal zone management communities.
•Knowledge Exchange Workshop: The insights from the case studies and additional knowledge will be disseminated during the workshop.
Under the Project, WE&B succesfully developed/ delivered the following services:
• WE&B developed the Communication and Awareness Action Plan (CAAP) by actively engaging with identified stakeholders to gather their input and ensure relevance to their needs. As part of this effort, WE&B investigated and produced 15 targeted factsheets focusing on three key sectors: Private sector (industry),
Public sector and Civil society.
These factsheets were designed to inform, raise awareness, and encourage action across these stakeholder groups
