A strategic framework guiding a country’s response to climate change risks, integrating adaptation measures into national planning.
GGGI is supporting the national adaptation planning process for the State of Qatar to enable the country to identify and address its medium- and long-term priorities for adapting to climate change as part of Qatar’s broader development strategy and green economy transition efforts.
A critical component of this process is the development of Qatar’s National Adaptation Plan (NAP), based on the outcomes of existing climate risk and vulnerability assessment and identified climate change adaptation measures across the State’s six key sectors namely (i) public health, (ii) water, (iii)
energy, (iv) agriculture and livestock, (v) infrastructure, and (vi) biodiversity, designed to address identified climate risks. Overall, this assignment shall help the State of Qatar to reduce its vulnerability to the impacts of climate change, enhance its overall climate resilience, and mainstream climate change adaptation into the broader development planning process in the different sectors and levels.
More specifically, this consultancy helps the State of Qatar to (1) assess and prioritize the identified adaptation measures, (2) Establish the Risk baseline and prioritized actions for Qatar’s NAP in line with broader policies and national targets, and (3) engage with the relevant authorities, agencies, and stakeholders across the six key sectors to support the NAP formulation processes
WE&B will support GGGI to assist the country’s national adaptation planning. The aim is to help the State of Qatar in defining its medium- and long-term priorities for enhancing climate change resilience.
A key aspect of the services involve the formulation of Qatar’s National Adaptation Plan (NAP), which will be guided by the results of the existing climate risk and vulnerability assessment and will incorporate adaptation measures across the State’s six major sectors, including (i) public health, (ii) water, (iii) energy, (iv) agriculture and livestock, (v) infrastructure, and (vi) biodiversity, with a view to address climate risks. Fundamentally, this assignment intends to reduce Qatar’s vulnerability to climate change by integrating climate adaptation into development planning across the above-mentioned key sectors and various levels.
The specific objectives of the assignment are to assist the State of Qatar in the following areas:
1. Evaluating and prioritising the identified adaptation measures
2. Establishing a risk baseline and prioritising actions for Qatar’s NAP in alignment with broader policies and national targets, and
3. Engaging with relevant authorities, agencies, and stakeholders across the six key sectors to facilitate the NAP formulation process.
